Pranje tkanja - Washing the woven piece

Huh, uh, uh.... the washing of my latest woven piece was quickly done that day. Knock, knock on the washing machine door.... although I was really worried what will be waiting for me once I open the washing machine, there was no return, I had to do it. Much to my happiness, everything worked out perfectly, the woven piece had washed nicely, did not shrink and is ready for the next steps in its life. The opinions about what the fabric should become are divided between another coat similar to the black alpaca one mentioned two posts ago, or a fabric for a nice skirt+jacket.
I myself am not sure.

novi tkani materijal / new woven fabric

My last week's troubles with the woven piece are finished. Everything started some three weeks ago when I visited a little wool shop in Croatia and with lots of trouble found something that I liked and was suiting my idea for the next project. It is sad to see how much of acrylic fibers are imported in the country. I know that a lot depends on the shop owners, but am sure that buyers would be happy to see something different from time to time. To cut the long story short, I managed to find something I liked, but could not get the matching material for the warp and weft, so I waited to return to my 8-shaft loom where I had some good old 100% alpaca in red and brown as well as some hand-spun alpaca. Warping was an experience in itself, as there has been such a mixture of materials that it was a bit difficult to put it all in place. Three meters into the weaving, I had a mess on the loom, but have managed to weave the full four meters of fabric.
Earlier this morning, I have already put the whole thing into the washing machine on a cold wash, and I hope that my next post will not talk of disaster. Let's wait and see......

It was awhile  ago since I have woven the piece of fabric on the right photo. At the time, I made a long material of over four meters and although I had a plan already then, I have only two weeks ago finally brought it to its final product, a lovely, soft and elegant coat. My seamstress did a great job connecting the pieces together and we decided not to put any buttons or anything else for closing it, but rather leave it loose as there is quite some material that drapes well, and each side can be brought forward to the other as a scarf. Unfortunately that the black does not show that well on the photo, but I will try to make better picture even though I am sure you will get an idea how it actually looks like.

Samo kratko / Only shortly

Just a short post as I am currently in a number of parallel projects and as soon as I finish and photograph everything, I will be back.
In the meantime, I have finally turned a nice piece of fabric I wove ages ago into a beautiful, soft and fluffy black and gray alpaca coat. That has given me enough inspiration for the next weaving project, large piece of material in different colors and thickness which, although perfectly planned gave me enough headaches, broken threads..... Last but not least, as if that was not enough, I decided to warp the small "knitters loom" with the long warp of app. 2.5 meters with the pinky colored warp and similar weft for something pink and girly. The new post is coming as soon as I photograph it all!

Lijenost ili nešto drugo? / Laziness or what?

The cotton yarn I recently purchased had been looking stronger when I was buying it, but once I decided to start warping the loom, I was a bit discouraged and felt it is too thin and vulnerable and would not really hold well. It was not even that thin, it was just breaking easily when I would pull it and this is why I decided to make a sample and see whether I should expect problems. Finally, I must say that everything worked out well, the warp held perfectly in my little 30cm sampler.
Every time I do decide to make a sampler, I am really happy about it, as it helps me see how would the pattern work out, how are the different yarns behaving, how much does it shrink at washing and any other question I would be having without making it. Not sure why don't I make the samples more often......
